Come December, Nicco Park with support from Sichuan Illutrans Cultural Communication Co. Ltd. China brings to the residents of Kolkata several stunning illuminated sculptures for an after-sundown celebration of culture & life and transforming Kolkata’s favorite family destination into a magical paradise of enchanting illuminated displays.
This is a rare opportunity to witness the majestic skill of the World’s best lantern-makers from China and the untiring efforts of 30 artisans coming all the way from Sichuan, China who have put together this enthralling spectacle of lights the art of which has been handed down through several generations. Wander through this thrilling display of thousands of mesmerizing illuminations bringing alive sculptures in all shapes and sizes along with live performances of music, delectable food and merchandise at the ‘International Festival of Magical Panda Lights’ a complete 90 days of festivities which will leave you spellbound from December 1, 2018 to February 28, 2019.
In ancient China, the lantern used as a source og lighting the way, but now it is used to light up the cooperation and “Trans”-form the relationship of between countries through this thousand years’ imagination about lights, about freedom and about the origins of people.
Colourful lantern festival is a Chinese folk cultural festival with a long history and the most characteristics. As early as in the West Han Dynasty (207 B.C. – 25 A.D.), lantern festival was mentioned in various written records. Afterwards it become an indispensable grand occassion that people looked forward to the future and prayed for a harvest year.
The lantern of China is the quintessence of Chinese lantern culture famed for its magnificence, spectacular and large scale. It is superior to other lantern festivals due to its ingenious concept and design and delicate fabrication. It is amazing due to its combination of light and scene and indistinct gradation. From the viewpoint of contents, styles and workmanship, Zigong lantern festival has innovated the traditional Chinese lantern festival forming an artistic characteristic of Chinese modern lantern festival in the aspect of “shape, color, sound, light, and movement”. In the recent 20 years, Zigong lantern show has made a stir both home and abroad and been reputed as “the first lantern show in the world”. After lantern show in London, Leeds, Birmingham, Longleat in UK, now China artisians once again decide to make Adventure Island a magical wonderland as the first ever in Indian history.
Nicco Park was very aptly chosen as the venue for the first ever ‘International Festival of Magical Panda Lights’ show in India, not only for the reason that it is a landmark family destination in Kolkata where people from all walks of life and all ages associate it as a venue for fun & entertainment but also because the citizens of the ‘City of Joy’ are known to be connoisseurs of arts & culture.
In the recent years, Sichuan Lantern shows have been held in many places around the globe creating interest amongst people of all ages. The Lantern shows held in UK, EUROPE, USA, UAE & China, earned kudos & also captivated large audiences. ‘International Festival of Magical Panda Lights’ is superior to other lantern festivals due to its ingenious concept and design and delicate fabrication.
The layout of the International Festival of Magical Panda Lights follows the four principles: Unevenness and Misalignment but appeal; Scattered layer by layer; Appropriate concentration and distribution and Appropriate density. The layout of the entire light group in & around the Lake of Nicco Park includes China Culture Section, Children Animal Section, Lake Reflection Section, Lovers Section and Decoration Section. The colorful China culture and custom will be displayed from multilevel and multidimensional aspects via the radiation and expansion in forms of various light arts. The light group full of exotic flavors and customs of China will bring visual, color and artistic enjoyment and soothing environment due to its scenic beauty.

Starting 01st. December 2018. our visitors will get a chance to see the enchanting illuminations with the Walk Through Shows during the day between 12noon – 4pm and the evening walk through Show between 5pm – 10pm. Visitors can also spend their evenings dining under the stars in an open-air restaurant – Lakeside Restaurant & Bar with sumptuous Chinese and Tandoori items. Family Get-togethers/Corporate parties in larger groups can also be organized with prior reservations.
Reason Behind this Festival:
Actually, since BC 200, ancient China and India were beginning to communicate in different ways of cultural exchange. However due to the vast land and massive area of both two countries these exchange are hardly to be felt and touched by the common people. With 5000 years’ history, what does the old and new China like and are experiencing? With this doubt it is a prerequisite that an organisation of a cultural festival of what hundred hundred of years ago how China celebrate and lives to the Indian common people and the following this would trigger the investment and tourism of both the countries.

MAIN WELCOME GATE
Description: Traditional Chinese archways, called paifang or pai lou, marked the entrances to communities or districts within sprawling Chinese cities. In the Tang Dynasty, these archways initially functioned as guarded gates and markers denoting precincts, but evolved into more elaborate, decorative structures in the Song Dynasty. These highly stylized archways also serve to commemorate great achievements and important families in Chinese history. These archways are a classic Chinese architectural form found in front of temples, tombs, bridges, and ancestral halls. Tentative Size: 25 m (Length) x 8 m (Height) x 2 m (Width).
The lotus flower and lotus pond holds great meaning in China. The flower is a symbol of beauty, love, and harmony. For Buddhists, the lotus flower is associated with the sitting Buddha. This perfect flower grows and blooms through muddy water, which represents enlightenment – the ability to overcome the pain and attachments of the material world. This summertime setting demonstrates the most active time of year around a lotus pond, when the flowers are in full bloom and the surroundings are filled with dancing fireflies, singing frogs, and nightingales.
