Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences felicitated Organ Donors family on World Kidney Day

Ambarnath Bhattacharya, abptakmaa, Kolkata, 14th March 2019 :    Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences, Kolkata on the occasion of World Kidney day felicitated the family members of the organ donors who gave a new lease of life to many people in the city.The families were felicitated by Dr. Pratik Das, Senior Consultant Nephrologist, Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Consultant Intensivist & Dr. Joydeep Bhattacharya, Senior Medical Superintendent.

The donors’ families expressed interest in educating the society and spreading awareness on organ donation. They shared the different emotions they have gone through but eventually their sense of gratification on having consented to donate the organs of their loved ones. They conveyed that in a time of grief they gained closure knowing that their loved ones have given a new lease of life to many.

Aviraj Bose’s mother, Late Sumita Bose had donated her organs in January 2019. He said, “I am very thankful to this hospital for informing & educating me on the concept of Organ Donation as I wasn’t aware about it before. My grandmother had told me that if there was a possibility of donating your mother organs we should go ahead, and we did the same.” He added further “In my opinion there is a lack of awareness about organ donation, especially amongst the youth. There should be more knowledge about it in the society so that more people and families can come forward as donors and save more lives.”

Suchita Sarkar was another patient who donated her organs. Her family member Sourav Sarkar said, “Organ donation which happened in our family completely changed our viewpoints. We have all taken a pledge to be donors and donate our organs in the future if the situation ever arises, and it is my humble appeal to create more awareness so that more people come forward and more lives can be saved.”

Mr. S N Mukherjee, husband of Late Mrs. Rina Mukherjee said, “In my opinion the hospital and media has spread a lot of awareness about organ donation in the society. Everyone who attended my wife’s funeral and came to know that my wife’s organs were donated after her demise and saved lives, they saluted her and took pledge to donate their organs in future.”

Dipanwita Das, Daughter of Late Kalyani Sarkar said,“My father took the decision after consulting with Dr. Rakesh Sharma (Intensivist) and consented to donate my mother’s organs. We are really very thankful to all the doctors of R N Tagore Hospital who helped us throughout this process.”

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Pratik Das, Senior Consultant Nephrology, RN Tagore Hospital said, “We are extremely happy to felicitate the family members of organ donors who are the Real Heroesof society, who took the initiative to donate the organs of their loved ones and gave a new lease of life to many. We are creating awareness for organ donation, also we would like to request the elders and youth of the society to spread the message about organ donation.
